Managing social media can be a little tricky when you only have around ten minutes a day to check-in, let alone publish and share. So it is always good when we find those little ‘quick wins’ that allow us to maximise the time we have on social and bring about real results quickly. In this post we will look at some quick wins that you can pull together and implement in just ten minutes a day. Some require a little work to set up (everything does on social initially) but once you’re on the way, you won’t look back. Call them cheats or call them wins, it doesn’t matter. But this is how the very best social marketers maximise their time.
Work that email signature
You’ll be surprised how, with this quick three minutes of work, you can boost your social media following massively.
Share the visuals on Twitter
- Surprisingly, this is still not being done by a lot of people online. Twitter is one of the most exciting and engagement-heavy platforms out there right now, and it’s only growing. You can find an audience quickly and speak to them on a daily basis with speed and efficiency. But one of the biggest ways to boost your views and engagements is through using images.
- Some people don’t do this for what is effectively a valid reason. Images take time to organise and they clog up the hard drive. They are also difficult to find, with much of the Web full of grainy stuff that no one wants to see.
- Ever tried screen grabbing? Screen grabbing an image and the quickly tweeting it takes just a minute or two at the most, and it means that you can quickly have a tweet that has a great image in it.

Do some work on your profile
- This is crucial. We all get excited when we first join a social network and we race through all of the profile stuff as quickly as possibly can.
- Then we sit there after a few weeks with no traction. Our profile is not good enough and that is why people just aren’t finding and engaging with us. Take five minutes every day to keep tweaking your profile though, and you’ll soon find that you start to get a lot more attention than you are used to.
- This is true for all social networks, but it makes absolutely 100% perfect sense on a platform like LinkedIn, which relies upon allowing people to fill out as much detail as is reasonably possible on themselves or their company.
- LinkedIn would not survive without fully written profiles. The entire reason for the platform’s existence is the amount of information that people fill out on their profiles. The more you do on this platform, the more you come up in search. And since LinkedIn is quickly becoming one of the most search-engine friendly social networks, it’s vitally important that you fill out that profile.
- And we’re not just talking about pretty or cool pictures. You need to ensure that all of your social profiles have every bit of useful information, including your location, your job title and so on. Search is now very social media heavy, and if you want people to find and engage with you, your profile is your main weapon.
Use Twitter for blog ideas
- Now, this one really works. we all know what it’s like to be stuck for blog post ideas. It can be incredibly difficult to get your head together when it comes to finding fresh ideas to keep your audience happy and engaged. In fact, if you think about it, it can be a bit of a bind. A chore.
- But Twitter is here to save the day. You can use the platform in a number of ways to gain fresh new blog post ideas. The first way is kind of obvious, and if you’re not doing it you’d better get on with it immediately. The second way is a little more sophisticated, and not a lot of people are doing it.
- The first method involves literally monitoring the feeds of people in the industry that you are part of. We’re not talking the Big Guys necessarily, because their ideas tend to be huge and a little hard to break down. But if you look at people who are running similar companies to yours, pretty soon you will find ideas in their feeds that resonate with you, or make you want to get involved in the conversation.
- So get involved. Shoot them a quick direct message offering your thoughts. The more you do this, the more people will respond to what you have to say. Then, pretty soon, you will find all the problems and solutions that people in your industry are dealing with on a daily basis.
- Let’s make this a little more concrete. Let’s say you run a marketing agency and you’re stuck for blog post ideas. Hit Twitter, and you’ll find a ton of people who do what you do. Get involved in their feeds and pretty soon you’ll see them tweeting about stuff like IM marketing, or mobile marketing in particular. Get involved, and tell them how much you like their feed, and let them know if you happen to have an answer to their questions.
- Pretty soon, ideas will flow back and forth and you’ll start to get a whole new perspective on the problem. It may be a local perspective, or it may be a brand new idea that just pops up. Consider Twitter to be a giant water cooler, and pretty soon you’ll be full of blog post ideas.
- The second concept is quite powerful to say the least. We recommend that you tweet for ideas. Send out a tweet to your followers asking for help on blog post ideas, or for help on a recent blog post that you’re trying to put together. You will be surprised at the response.
- People love helping on Twitter, and if you literally send out a tweet asking for help with a certain blog post you need to write, we all but guarantee that people will respond. It may not happen the first time but if you tweet ‘Hey, I’m looking for ideas on a blog post I’m writing about mobile marketing’, and you keep going for a little while, you’ll start to get a response.
- And the best things about this second idea? Real people are responding with their thoughts. So you’re already looking at an audience for that post.
Read, and then read some more. Then store it away
- Not enough people are reading content at the moment. They’re scanning it and then deleting. There is actually a lot of great content out there that you can use in your social media work. But the problem is time. We don’t have enough.
- So manage this by finding strong content that you might want to turn into a series of tweets, for example. Store it in an app like Pocket, which allows you to store a vast amount of content easily, and come back to it when you are ready. It’s like having your own magazine. And it helps you with social because you can use it to find ideas for your content.
- Or use Evernote, which again is a quick and easy way to store content or links to content. It’s easy to use and it means you can store literally hundreds of pieces of content that you can get a quick link to and shoot it to Twitter, Facebook or any other platform.
