Facebook users will now be prompted to read an article before sharing it, as announced in the tweet below:
Following the update, if Facebook detects a user has not opened an article they attempt to share, a pop up will appear highlighting “You are about to share an article without opening it”. The message is designed to encourage the user to read the content, but users are given the option to open the article or to continue reposting without reading.
This move comes some months after Twitter implemented the same practice to prevent their users retweeting posts without having read the article linked.
