The final Global Digital Report round-up for 2023 reveals even more essential insights into digital behavior from users worldwide.

With more than 300 slides to explore, we’ve pulled together some of the top stories within the report: 

• ▪️WhatsApp receives the highest frequency of use of any of the large social platforms. The daily open rate is 83.2%, however, the average session only lasts just over 1 minute. 
• ▪️Recent changes to social media algorithms have seen referral traffic to third-party websites drop and to make matters worse, engagement rates continue to fall. 
• ▪️Websites are a hugely important opportunity for marketers. GWI research shows internet users are twice as likely to have visited a brand website in the past month than to have visited a brand’s social media page or followed them. 
• ▪️Social media user growth has accelerated over recent months at the fastest pace in 18 months, figures have grown at an average of 9.6 additional user identities per second. The total global users is now 4.95 billion with trends suggesting this will reach 5 billion in early 2024. 
• ▪️Instagram reported ad reach grew by 18% over the past year – marketers can reach 1.64 billion users with ads on Instagram. These ads are reaching 1 in 5 people on Earth every month. 
• ▪️TikTok has been growing even faster than Instagram with ad reach surging by almost 29% over the past 12 months. This is due to an additional 272 million addressable accounts. TikTok’s audience grew by 12.5% in the last 3 months alone, with reach growing by an average of 1.5 million accounts per day between June and September. • ▪️Last year’s top story was that the time spent online was declining, but according to GWI figures, it has increased over the past two quarters to 6 hours 41 minutes, which is 6 minutes more than the last 3 months in 2022. However, the daily time spent watching TV has fallen by 13 minutes per day compared to this time last year. 
• ▪️Facebook now claims more than 3 billion monthly active users – half of all the people on Earth aged 13 and above. Users are also spending more time on Facebook, data.ai shows average figures of 18 hours and 15 minutes per month – up by 2.5% from last quarter.
