The latest April Statshot highlights how social media adoption has continued to accelerate as internet users now equate to more than 60% of the world’s total population. And, more than half a billion new users joined social media platforms over the past 12 months.
Top stories from this quarterly report:
? More than 1 in 3 users around the world say a top motivator for using social media is for news and entertainment
? 26.5% of social media users visit social platforms specifically to find products to purchase.
? Marketers may be surprised to learn that people are more likely to cite “seeing content from [their] favourite brands” as a top motivation for using social media than they are to cite “following celebrities or influencers” (23.4% vs. 20.9%)
? The average number of page posts per day on Facebook is 2.32.
? Facebook posts with links account for the largest post type (49.5%), but they receive the lowest average engagement rate at only 0.04%.
? The typical Instagram business account shares 1.58 posts per day, 64.4% of these will be photos and just 16.8% are videos.
? If your Instagram business account has fewer than 10,000 followers then you’ll be experiencing the highest average engagement rate at 1.25%. This is considerably higher than accounts with more than 100,000 followers with a rate of 0.73%.
