Looking at all the social media data might be overwhelming at first. Some find it difficult to recognize metrics that are important for measuring the health of a page. It can be demanding to identify any actionable insights trapped in all the big data. It doesn’t have to be like that. This article gives you a step-by-step guide that will help you successfully monitor and report on your social media activities in 10 minutes. Let’s get started with things to-do on your first Locowise login.

1. Add your profile

Click on “Add Profile” in the top right corner.
Select the social platform (for the purpose of this article we will focus on a Facebook page).
Select the page you want to add and click “Confirm“.

Your page is now visible in the “Overview” section on the sidebar. Click “View” on the page to access the analytics data displayed in simple charts.

2. The five most useful charts for a quick performance overview

As a social media manager I find the following charts most valuable when monitoring performance. They help me figure out how things are doing, give feedback on future content to post and are also perfect when reporting the results to the management. These five charts cover a range of important metrics including best performing post types, and even help settle the “when to post” argument by providing best day and time to post. Let’s take a look at the charts one at a time.

In “Insight” on the sidebar – Fans Timeline:

In this chart you can see how many new likes your page has gained (or lost) in a certain time period. Note that the period is 12 days by default but you can choose specific dates in the top right.
You can see the growth comparison to the previous period by hovering over the percentage numbers.
Click on any day on the chart to dig deeper into the content posted on the day.

In “Insight” – Page Performance:

See how many impressions and engagements your content achieved in the period.
As always, see the comparison to the previous period by hovering over the percentage numbers.
Click on any spike on the chart to dig deeper into the individual posts that achieved the engagement.

In “Engagement” – Average Post Reach By Type:

See which Facebook post type (status, photo, video or link) gained the most reach.
See the comparison to the previous period by hovering over the percentage numbers.
There are many theories about which post type gets most reach but this chart allows you to settle the argument.

In “Content” – Content:

See the overview of all the posts published during the period
Filter and rank posts according to the number of likes, comments, reach, impressions, clicks and more.
My favourite filter is the “Engagement Rate”. Engagement rate is calculated by taking all the people who have engaged with your post (clicked, likes, commented, shared) and divided by the reach. It is a powerful metric that identifies the most engaging content.

In “Optimise” – Best Day To Post:

Get a clear overview of what days of the week you will reach the most people.
Click on any day on the chart to view the expected impressions, expected engagement and best time to post.
Again, this chart allows you to settle the argument about what day and time is best to post a new piece of content.

3. Create a custom dashboard to share the report with the team

To completely automate the process of monitoring and reporting on the above metrics, you can create a custom dashboard in which you can arrange all the relevant charts in one simple report. This saves you time and allows you to showcase streamlined reports to other team members or to the management.

Click “Dashboard” in the sidebar and then “New Dashboard“.
In the empty field on top you can name your report.
In “Select a profile” you can pick the page you want to monitor.
In “Select Objects” you can pick the relevant charts you want to display.
When you have selected the charts click on “Finish and Launch Dashboard”.

You can now visit your new dashboard by clicking on “Dashboard” in the left-hand sidebar and choosing the one you just created. Once inside the dashboard, in the top right corner you can click on “Report” to download the report as PDF or PowerPoint. You can also schedule the report to be sent via email to your team members or to the management. You can send the report to multiple people at once and you can schedule the frequency and the day it should be sent on.

10 minutes work and you now have a nice looking and simple to understand report. Review this report with your other social media team members or send it to the management in order to demonstrate the team’s successes.
