Facebook is encouraging users not to switch off their data tracking. Following the changes due to iOS14 update, users will be asked to keep the platforms “free of charge” by enabling information to be collected from their use on other apps and websites.
Digital marketers will be aware that the Apple i0S14 update greatly impacted Facebook advertising. Users are now asked by each app to give permission for tracking to continue across the apps they use, reducing the data Facebook is able to gather. Due to this, Facebook has introduced an ‘education screen’ to appear before the prompt from Apple to encourage users to consider their decision carefully. On this, Facebook says the following:
“As Apple has said that providing additional context is allowed, we will show an educational screen before presenting Apple’s prompt to help people make an informed decision about how their information is used. It provides more details about how we use data for personalized ads, as well as the ways we limit the use of activity other apps and websites send us if people don’t turn on this device setting. Our screen also lets people know that they’re seeing Apple’s prompt due to Apple’s requirements for iOS 14.5.”
